Mayor G.T. Bynum announced a grant program for nonprofits that are helping with responding to the COVID-19 pandemic.
City officials said they are accepting proposals and are "award[ing] up to $6.5 million from COVID-19 relief funding to help local nonprofits address the effects of the pandemic."
Mayor Bynum that this will help in supporting Tulsans affected by the pandemic.
“This new grant process will be critical in supporting neighbors who have been affected by the pandemic,” Mayor G.T. Bynum said. “Through this partnership with the non-profit sector, we’ll have new opportunities to serve Tulsans and reduce the widespread effects of COVID-19. We will emerge from this crisis by working together and building a more resilient City and local economy.”
Officials said submissions should do at least one of the following: "support Tulsans’ personal and financial health, development and resilience; enable the secure resumption of economic or community activity; or seed the creation, stability and growth of emerging industries and occupations to build a stronger economic base."
Officials stated that proposals will be evaluated on "project impact, fiscal and performance accountability and organizational qualifications and experience."
The City Council and the Mayor will give final approval to the awards.
“In distributing COVID-19 funds, it is important Tulsans have a voice in identifying community needs and developing programs,” City Council Chair Vanessa Hall-Harper said. “This RFP process not only gives our local organizations that are small and sometimes forgotten, a direct role in this process but also offers training, so that all organizations have an equitable opportunity to share their ideas and access funds.”
