Muscogee (Creek) Nation Health officials say they have been able to give out almost 6,000 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine.

They plan on hosting a vaccine event this weekend for members 65 and older. The event will be a drive-thru event at the Okmulgee Medical Center at 1212 S. Belmont.

Patients must have an appointment to be vaccinated.

So far, 5,950 Pfizer and Moderna vaccines have been administered to healthcare workers and those 65 and older.

They will begin giving those people their second dose of the vaccine on Monday.

Chief Pharmacist Sam Hubler said they have already seen a positive impact from the vaccines already.

"There's definitely light at the end of the tunnel we are starting to see our infection rates trend down, at least with our healthcare employees," Hubler said.
