January's Impactful Teacher is Kaitlyn Whiteis; she has only been teaching four years, but she's making a big impact in Coweta.
Kaitlyn graduated from Broken Arrow High School and Northeastern State in Tahlequah.
She teaches a self-contained special needs class at Mission Intermediate Grade Center in Coweta.
Kaitlyn knew early on that being a special needs teacher was her calling.
She said this year with the pandemic has been challenging.
"Usually I like to teach hands on. I like to get on the floor and just do interactive activities with my students," Kaitlyn said. "It's hard this year because I can't be as close to them as I have been able to in the past. I can't sit with them and play games with them. I have to keep my distance from them, and that's difficult especially when students want to give hugs. It's hard."
Kaitlyn said the $1,000 she's being given from T-Mobile will be helpful.
She plans to revamp her room with some new desks and materials for her students.
