A rise in COVID-19 cases is causing students at two of Green Country’s largest school districts to shift to distance learning this week.
In Broken Arrow, all students will be in distance learning for the entire week. The district blamed a shortage of staff, including custodians and bus drivers.

As of Friday, Broken Arrow Public Schools reported almost 250 students and staff members with positive COVID-19 cases. Staff will not be on site this week as buildings will be deep cleaned.
Meals will still be available for students in the district outside of school sites from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m.
In Bixby, all students at the ninth Grade Center will be in distance learning through Wednesday and are expected to be back in classrooms on Thursday. All fifth graders at West Immediate will spend the week in distance learning and are scheduled to be back next Monday.

In a letter to the district, superintendent Rob Miller said the spike in new cases and staff shortages are the reason behind the move. Miller also said he looks forward to the day when these disruptions will stop and the best days for the district are still ahead.
