At home in the throwback jerseys, Tulsa faced SMU Wednesday night in a tight conference battle.
While it wasn’t for lack of effort, the rhythm didn’t click for the Hurricane tonight, as they fall 65-63.
Tulsa finally took its first lead with eight minutes left in the first, thanks to an 11-0 run, but the Hurricane let the Mustangs back in quickly. In the final few minutes, Tulsa went on a run, cutting the game to two with just 30 seconds on the clock.
Trading runs and trading turnovers was the rhythm of the game. And as far as rhythm goes, the Mustangs felt it, while for Tulsa it just didn’t come together.
TU chased just a few points behind the Mustangs throughout the game but in the second half, started to lose that close connection, falling farther behind.
Shooting just 22% from three, they had better luck inside the curve, shooting 41% from the field.
The Golden Hurricane falls to 6-5 in the American, switching places in standings with SMU. Tulsa will face UCF on Saturday.
