Thursday is World Cancer Day created to raise awareness of cancer and to encourage its prevention, detection, and treatment.
A Green Country woman, who is battling breast cancer, is using the day to "Walk On Cancer".
Aisha Patterson said she wants to walk to the ends of the earth so cancer feels defeated.
Patterson is a 30-year-old wife and mom of four from Tulsa, who was diagnosed with stage 2 breast cancer in November.
She tells News On 6 she has lost a lot in the past few months, her hair, her plans, her health. But today she is ready to take back her power, along with two of her friends who are also battling breast cancer.
Patterson said a friend once told her to put cancer where it belongs, under her feet, so she wrote it on the bottom of her shoes and felt empowered.
So on World Cancer Day, she and her friends and family are writing cancer on the bottom of their shoes again to “Walk On Cancer.” They'll share videos on social media and they're rallying others to do the same.
Patterson said she wants the message to go far and wide, so people feel power over cancer.
It is easy to show your support, you just need a pair of shoes and a sharpie, write the word cancer on the bottom, go for a walk and share on social media how you’re “Walking On Cancer” in 2021.
Patterson asks anyone who joins in to be sure to post a picture or video with the hashtag: #walkingoncancer21
