A man has been arrested after Tulsa police said he stole a car and led Oklahoma Highway Patrol troopers on a chase through West Tulsa. The car was reported stolen at the QuikTrip near Admiral and Memorial on Thursday afternoon.
Police said they were able to track the car because it had a GPS inside. OHP Troopers spotted the car in the westbound lanes of I-44 and tried to stop the driver.
An arrest reported stated the driver refused to stop and had speeds of more than 70 miles per hour in a construction zone. The report stated the driver eventually exited on 33rd West Avenue and tried to ram one of the troopers.
The driver continued the chase at high rates of speed and even came close to hitting a pedestrian, the report stated. Police said the suspect finally bailed out of the car at the South Haven apartment complex.
Police said he eventually surrendered after running into one of the apartments. The suspect has now been identified as Hunter Wattigney, 30.
