Boys & Girls Club members are showing off their artistic talents for the annual UScellular Black History Month Art Contest. Club members submitted artwork they created that recognize influential African American people. The drawings include historical figures, athletes, world leaders or celebrities who have made an impact on the artist’s life. A committee selected the top ten finalists from the area’s five Boys & Girls Clubs to compete.
Voting is open to anyone 18 or older. Due to COVID-19, this year’s voting has been moved online. Through February 28, 2021, you can vote here for your favorite piece of original art that was created by students who attend The Salvation Army Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Tulsa. One vote per person is allowed.
The three pieces of artwork that get the most votes will be eligible to win prizes that could include gift cards worth up to $250. The winners will be announced in March.
“The spirit of Black History Month shines through every piece of art. It is a great opportunity for our kids to learn about influential Black figures and celebrate their impact. Although voting looks different this year, we are excited to carry on this tradition with UScellular,” said Richard White, Executive Director, The Salvation Army Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Tulsa.
