The Tulsa Health Department has once again canceled its COVID-19 vaccine appointments for Friday. It is the third day in a week that people will not be able to receive their vaccine dose.
The Tulsa Health Department confirmed the cancellations with News On 6 on Thursday as they talked about their plans for the winter weather.
Both Friday and Monday's vaccine clinics at Expo Square will no longer be happening.
For those who had an appointment scheduled for either of those days, the THD should be sending out an email. Officials say they will automatically reschedule those appointments for next week when openings become available.
The cancellations are expected to impact about 6,000 people in the Tulsa area.
Health officials say they are working with the county to make sure areas around Expo Square are clear of ice. But with extremely cold temperatures and snow in the forecast, they may have to postpone more appointments.
THD officials will make the decision Sunday afternoon. They are confident however that no vaccine will go to waste.
"We will not waste vaccine. Any that we have taken out that were meant for today's operations, we have community partners who are doing operations over the weekend and will be able to get those into the arms of individuals before their due date, I believe would be Monday," said Alicia Etgen from the Tulsa Health Department.
Health departments across the state are making decisions about whether to postpone appointments.
