Oklahoma's Corporation Commission voted 2-1 Tuesday night to pass an order asking utilities and power companies in Oklahoma to prioritize health and safety over businesses when making decisions about diverting power.

“This is a dire situation,” Director of Public Utilities Brandy Wreath told commissioners during the meeting.

Wreath told commissioners some businesses have been asked by utilities to reduce power and have refused.

The order gives power companies the ability to make decisions to divert power. Wreath said this order is necessary to prevent possible loss of life.

A representative from OG&E was on the call and supports the order.

Wreath said additional gas freeze offs may be coming Wednesday, and if there isn’t enough wind for wind generation, there maybe another energy shortage.

Commissioners Todd Hiett and Dana Murphy voted for the order. Bob Anthony voted against and said he thinks there are unintended consequences and concerns with contract issues.
