Oklahomans Impacted By COVID-19, Applying For SNAP Help

The struggle to put food on the table is impacting thousands of Oklahomans.

Since last May, more than 10,000 people have applied for SNAP benefits in the state.

And Hunger Free Oklahoma is working to help more people get benefits.

Hunger Free Oklahoma said they've helped 6,500 families submit SNAP applications since last spring.

Of those, they've been able to help about 3,200, but that number continues to go up.

In Oklahoma -- application rates skyrocketed during the height of the pandemic -- with nearly triple the amount of people applying.

We're told that SNAP benefits also increased significantly last year-- by more than 100-million dollars.
