The University of Oklahoma athletic department is planning for "maximum capacity" for fans at home football games this fall.

The University of Oklahoma athletic department is planning for "maximum capacity" for fans at home football games this fall.

The announcement was made by athletic director Joe Castiglione in a Friday afternoon email to season ticket holders.

"As you know, a Sooner home game is among the greatest spectacles in sports," Castiglione said in the email. "We are excited to again hear the roar of our great crowd while delivering for our student-athletes the unparalleled experience of competing on Owen Field."

Castiglione's announcement comes three days after university president Joseph Harroz, Jr. said the school also plans for full capacity for in-person learning.

Oklahoma now joins Oklahoma State as the second NCAA Division I football program in the state to announce its intention to fill its home stadium for games this fall. Former OSU athletic director Mike Holder made the announcement on Feb. 4.

The Sooners are expected to host Western Carolina (Sept. 11), former Big Eight and Big 12 rival Nebraska (Sept. 18), West Virginia (Sept. 25), Texas Christian (Oct. 16), Texas Tech (Oct. 30) and Iowa State (Nov. 20) at Gaylord Family-Oklahoma Memorial Stadium this fall.
