Some locally owned pharmacies are starting to receive hundreds of doses of COVID-19 vaccines to help people in their communities. Some pharmacies are even launching their own sign-up website to prepare for the rollout.
Super H Pharmacy in Bristow is one of the local pharmacies that’s been selected to be a COVID-19 vaccine distribution site, now many people are wondering how they can get signed up.
“We have a lot of people who want to stay local but also they just can’t travel to get to where they need to go,” said Super H Pharmacist Van Hodges.
Hodges is a pharmacist at Super H Pharmacy and in addition to filling prescriptions, they’re also starting to book appointments for the COVID-19 vaccine. Hodges expects to get his first batch of Moderna vaccines in the next few days and they hope to start scheduling people by the end of the week.
“We’ll also have a waitlist to call people in case we have some cancellations or no shows so we can just pick up the phone and say can you come right now,” said Norman pharmacy owner A.J. Asgari.
Asgari said he knew scheduling vaccines would be a difficult process for smaller pharmacies, like Super-H, so he and his team created bookaCovidvaccine.com to help people find an appointment closer to home.
“It will find the closest local pharmacies that either plan to provide vaccine or are currently providing vaccines and they can either get on the wait list or book,” said Asgari.
Asgari and his team previously created prescription delivery service, Drug Store to Door. Now bookacovidvaccine.com was created to ease some of the pressure local pharmacists are starting to see.
“We were really hoping we’d be able to simplify the process for both sides the consumer looking for the vaccine and the pharmacy managing the vaccinations they receive,” said Asgari.
Super H Pharmacy in Bristow and V and V Drug in Vinita have already been selected as vaccination sites in Green Country, but more could be on the way.
Hodges said they also might do some in-home vaccinations for people who are home bound, helping them serve their local communities in more ways than one.
“We want them to see that we are doing our part to make sure the people of this community stay healthy,” said Hodges.
Hodges said he knows technology can be difficult for some, so if you have any issues you can get in touch with the pharmacy and they’ll be able to help.
