A couple of gray whales approached an expedition boat to the delight of visitors on Friday (March 12) between Newport Beach and Santa Catalina Island in California, United States.
The visitors participated in a whale watch organized by Pacific Offshore Expeditions when they spotted a pod of five gray whales.
After 30 minutes two whales broke off and came over to investigate the boat. The couple of mammals spent around 90 minutes playing on all sides of the boat. During this time, the organizers made sure that the whales were not touched.
The gray whales are currently on their northbound migration from Baja California back to their feeding grounds off Alaska.
