The big cold-core low responsible for all the active weather the last 24 hours is exiting the area this morning but not before bringing windy and blustery conditions across northeastern OK. Temps currently in the mid to upper 30s will only reach the upper 40s and lower 50s this afternoon with mostly cloudy skies across eastern sections, with some clearing to our west. A wind advisory was in effect for the overnight hours but will technically not be needed this morning, yet gusty northwest winds from 20 to 30 mph will remain today before diminishing later tonight. Most of the precipitation has already ended, but some showers do remain across extreme northeastern sections into southeastern Kansas, including the low chance for some showers mixed with light snowflakes. The pattern will bring some sunshine yet cool weather Friday before transitioning to a nice spring weekend with sunshine and pleasant conditions.

Temps & Rain Chances

Lows this weekend will start in the lower 30s Saturday morning with Saturday’s highs in the mid-60s and Sunday reaching near 70. Our next upper-level system will drop across the western U.S. this weekend and this will induce pressure falls across the Lee of the Rockies with gusty south winds returning Sunday from 20 to 35 mph. Low-level moisture once again starts moving northward into the state early next week as the trough brings increasing chances of showers and storms into the state, including the threat for a few strong to severe storms. The Monday system is not as strong as the previous, but some severe threats will more than likely be present for a few locations. The data is inconsistent for the 2nd half of next week regarding the eventual outcome of the upper air pattern, but active weather seems likely, with additional precip chances by mid to late next week.

Weekend Outlook

The Vernal Equinox occurs Saturday morning. But we’re back to some chilly weather today.

Thanks for reading the Thursday morning weather discussion and blog.

Have a super great day!
