Tulsa Firefighters are fighting for one of their own. A nine-year veteran of the Tulsa Fire Department is battling cancer and TFD is raising money for his medical bills, so his family has one less thing to worry about.
The Tulsa Fire Department is one big family. When one person is down, you are surrounded by brothers and sisters who want to help.
"We just want to contribute and help in any way that we can," said Xavier McNac with Tulsa Fire Local 176.
When 37-year-old firefighter Kellen Davis told his coworkers he was battling cancer, they couldn't start fundraising fast enough.
"This big, loving, huge-hearted guy to be just distraught, got us all," said McNac. "We have an hour reduction shift where it decreases us, so we don't make overtime. Everybody is donating their days to him."
They didn't stop at donating days. Some of his friends got together to design a t-shirt where all the money that is made goes towards Davis’ medical bills.
"He was in one of the biggest classes of Tulsa Fire Department history. It is built by his academy classmates, the t-shirt, in the middle of it is his ranch brand," said McNac.
Davis has been a Tulsa Firefighter for nine years but when he isn't working, he is on his ranch out in Stigler. Someone came up with the idea of a spaghetti dinner and silent auction, all proceeds, once again, going directly to Davis and his family.
"We just want as many different ways for people to try and help him out, to make this as easy on him as possible. He is going through enough as it is," said McNac.
Davis loves spending time with his family. He hunts and fishes and his friends want him to be able to get back to those things he loves as soon as possible.
"Kellen Davis is fun loving. He is hard-working. He is a big goofball, but he is also super driven. He is a good person to be around," said McNac.
If you want to support Kellen and his family, there are so many ways to do so.
