The shooting that killed ten people inside of a Boulder, Colorado grocery store is something no one wants to think about, but Tulsa Police say they not only do they think about active shooter situations - it's something they train for all year long.

"We're ready for this, we don't want it to happen here, but we recognize that when it happens here, we will be ready," said Tactical Training Officer Wyatt Beaty.

Beaty said the shooting didn't get them thinking about how they'd respond because it's something they are always thinking about.

"For Tulsa Police officers, it's a realistic thing for us. For citizens I think it's like, ‘it happened over there, it wouldn't happen over here’ type of thing, Tulsa Police officers don't have that," Beaty said.

Beaty said there are things people should know if they are ever in an active shooter situation. He said it's best to remain calm, and then you run, hide and fight.

"Run away if you can, if you can't run then hide some place, if someone finds you, then fight," he said.

Beaty said officers train year-round for active shooter situations and run through all kinds of scenarios. He said the best thing anyone can do, is be prepared.

"We pray to God that it doesn't, but if it does, we're ready, and officers are going to risk their lives to save citizens," Beaty said.

Beaty said if you are somewhere and you hear a suspicious loud noise, you need to take the threat seriously and run.
