The City of Skiatook said the next phase of upgrades will soon be coming to Central Park. The project will be paid for through a grant and by the city.
Katie DeLong, City of Skiatook, said they are in the final stages of accepting the grant. DeLong said the city will soon be accepting bids for construction.
The first phase, including playground equipment and a splash pad, was finished in 2012. The next phase includes basketball courts, tennis courts, a walking trail, bathrooms and a large covered area for things like picnics.
There will also be a new amphitheater for live music during community events. DeLong said some of the newly planned amenities like basketball and tennis courts already exist at other parks but are in need of an upgrade.
“It means a lot to us,” said DeLong. “This will only enhance the park that we already have.”
The city estimates the project will cost $1.7 million. DeLong said the Oklahoma Tourism and Recreation Department will match half of the cost through a grant.
DeLong expects the next phase to be completed in 2023. She said the city is entertaining the idea of constructing a skate park in future plans.
