The Muscogee (Creek) Nation has four thousand doses of the COVID-19 vaccine it is administering Friday and Saturday to tribal and non-tribal members at the Tulsa Fairgrounds.
“Super simple. Super fast. I didn’t even have to get out of my car," said Anna Harris. Harris went to River Spirit Expo after receiving a text alert about the Muscogee Creek vaccinating people. She decided to get the vaccine because she lives next door to her elderly grandparents.
“Today it’s been really positive. Everyone was excited to be able to come and get their vaccination. It’s been good for the staff to hear kudos," said Shoneen Alexander-Ross.
Alexander-Ross is the Chief Performance Officer for Muscogee Creek Nation Department of Health. She said 23,000 Muscogee Creek members have gotten the vaccine. The Indian Health Services said they have vaccinated around 220,000 people regionally. Alexander-Ross said this even is about helping the community.
“I think it’s really refreshing when our clinical staff are able to come outside and offer an event like this. Especially when they have interaction with individuals and it’s positive. I think it’s refreshing for them. Today we’ve been talking with one another as we’ve prepared to get ready for this event we’re doing a good thing. We know it’s going to be great for the community," said Alexander-Ross.
After you get your shot, you will get an appointment for the second dose. “It makes my grandma feel better too so it makes me feel better that we can do that for her too," said Harris.
