A Closer Look At The Muscogee (Creek) Nation's New PPE Storage Facility

We are getting a closer look at the Muscogee (Creek) Nation's new personal protective equipment storage facility. The tribe paid for the facility with CARES Act Funds.

The facility is 37,000 sq. ft., and will store everything from masks and hand sanitizer to air purifiers.

"This place is just going to help us out a lot as a nation and help us grow," said Shane Houdy, the facility manager.

Houdy said right now, supplies are scattered throughout five smaller buildings. "It's been really tough supplying the needs of our community and our people and employees.. We have about 2.5 million disposable masks around we have around 60,000 rolls of hand sanitizer total. What it's going to allow us to do is have all our PPE supplies in a centralized location," Houdy explained.

The new facility will employ more than 20 tribal citizens. Principal Chief David Hill said the tribe's priority is to get the supplies to local schools and tribal facilities.

"With this we are able to create more partnerships with the city of Okmulgee and just to store stuff that we need for the future. Everything is for the people for our community and for the next generation," Hill added.

Hill said their goal is to have the space fully stocked with supplies by next week.
