Body Found At Ft. Gibson Lake In Mayes County, Investigation Underway

Officers are working to identify a body found floating in a river just south of Choteau.

Investigators pulled the body out of the river near Three Fingers Bay Public Use Area. OHP Marine Patrol and the Mayes County Sheriff’s Office believe the body is a person who was reported missing a few weeks ago.

Mayes County investigator Steven Brown said recovering dead bodies is a part of the job that never gets easier. 

"It takes a toll on us,” Brown said. “And then, we have to go and visit with the family and advise them of our possible find and the trauma it brings to them as well.” 

Authorities cannot confirm whether the man was a missing person. The man’s cause of death is still unknown.
