Tulsa Police arrested a man accused of using fake ID’s to steal more than $25,000 from several victims.

Records show Daniel Castillo was just arrested two months ago and last November for similar crimes. Records show he has six previous felony convictions and all six times, he got a suspended sentence.

Detectives said Castillo stole people's mail, then used their personal information to make fake ID’s and fake checks. They said he would then cash those checks at Tulsa banks.

Detectives said they've had several banks and people reporting identify thefts since December. Police said they've tied Castillo to eight victims so far but expect there are several more. A judge increased Castillo's bond to $250,000 while police continue to investigate.

"The vast majority of Tulsans especially are good people, they are hardworking, and they do the right thing, so it's very unfortunate there are people out there who take advantage of good people by stealing their information, then essentially draining their bank accounts,” said Lt. Chase Calhoun with the Tulsa Police Financial Crimes Unit.

He said the post office has a free service where they will send you an email every day with pictures of the mail you’re going to get in your mail box that day. If you notice any mail missing, report it immediately.
