The White House announced on Friday that a new community vaccination center will open in Tulsa on Wednesday, April 21, according to a release issued by the office of Oklahoma Governor Kevin Stitt.
The release states that the Federal Emergency Management Agency will lend support to the vaccination site in partnership with the Tulsa health department, Tulsa Area Emergency Management Agency, Oklahoma State Department of Health, Oklahoma Department of Emergency Management and Homeland Security, the Oklahoma National Guard and state and local partners.
Tulsa Mayor G.T. Bynum said, "We are grateful to receive additional resources in Tulsa to reach as many people as possible during one of the largest vaccination rollouts in our country’s history. I want to thank our federal partners for selecting Tulsa for this opportunity and want to thank the State of Oklahoma for its continued distribution of the vaccine as we all do our part to protect our neighbors."
According to the release, the vaccination center will be located at the Tulsa Community College Northeast campus. The location was chosen based on data analysis including the CDC’s Social Vulnerability Index and other Census data, as well as input from state and local partners.
The announcement comes only days after the state opened COVID-19 vaccine registration to residents from other states due to increased supply and continued progress in Oklahoma's vaccination efforts.
Currently, the state says more than 2.1 million doses of the vaccine have been administered.
