About 45 families are left struggling to find child care after Twinkle Tots daycare caught on fire Thursday night.

Damages at the building are estimated to be about $60,000.

Fire inspectors told owner, Delisha Johnson, the fire looks suspicious, and she agreed with them.

Police said they do have some leads they are following.

Johnson started Twinkle Tots at 2320 NW 39th in 2018 with $3,000, and said it has been her dream and passion.

She said she tries to help others and even feeds the homeless that stop by when she has leftovers from the daycare.

Twinkle Tots is insured. Johnson said she was surprised when she got the call, alerting her to the fire, because had just had an inspection.

She said she really feels bad for the parents that must find an alternative for child care.

She said she hopes all the families will come back, when she reopens.

“I miss saying good morning. I miss saying, 'what’s up' to my little fellas that are enrolled. I miss having the morning conversations with them. I miss having the afternoon goodbyes,” Johnson said.

Johnson is staying positive and say she has no anger towards whoever did this. She said she’s just ready to rebuild, and get back to doing what she loves and that is taking care of kids.

Anyone with information and wants to help their investigation is asked to call the arson hotline, 405-232-7766 or 23-ARSON.
