A Pryor senior celebrated her birthday by surprising her dad with some very special papers.
"I was six years old, almost seven whenever he came into the picture," said Taylor Rash.
There can be something incredibly sacred about the relationship between a girl and her father.
"In our hearts, it has been real for years," said Taylor.
If you get to experience that relationship at any point during your life, you will know there's nothing quite like it. The good news is that relationship doesn't require biological family. Sometimes wonderful people come into your life to fill a void and they become your family. That is what happened for Taylor.
"It was definitely not a hard transition. I was like 'This guy is cool!' said Taylor.
Zach Rash came into her life when he started dating Taylor's mom. They have been inseparable ever since.
"We like fishing together, we just hang out, we will go and grab lunch or whatever. There have been moments when we go and grab coffee," said Taylor.
Taylor changed her last name to Rash a few years ago but she said there was still something missing. She wanted her relationship with her father to be in writing and official.
On the morning of her 18th birthday, Taylor gave her father a present: adoption papers.
"We got them signed right then and there and then we turned them in the next Monday, which was the next day," said Taylor.
This relationship never needed paperwork to be permanent. Taylor said her dad has been showing up for her and cheering her on ever since he stepped into her life.
"He stepped into be the role of my dad. I know that anybody can be a parent but not everybody gets to choose to be a parent and he specifically chose to be my dad, it didn't just happen," said Taylor.
"She chose me,” said Zach. “I had already chosen her but she officially, for the record, chose me.”
