Tulsa County Commissioners extended a lease agreement with a new homeless shelter on Monday.

The Center for Housing Solutions is at the site of the former Tulsa County Juvenile Justice Center. County commissioners have extended the lease agreement month-by-month since September. The agreement now runs through May 31st.

The homeless shelter opened about 7 months ago as COVID-19 precautions forced other shelters to limit capacity. The city originally planned to run the shelter through January 1st of 2021, but the lease keeps getting extended. The shelter can hold 50 people each night and 150 during the day. The city can run it using money from the federal CARES Act. The city allocated about $1.5 million dollars for the shelter but $500,000 of that was used by January.
