Oklahomans charged with unlawful assembly could now be prosecuted under a law developed for going after the mob and organized crime.

Governor Kevin Stitt signed a bill authored by two Green Country lawmakers that adds unlawful assembly to the state’s RICO statutes.

Claremore representative Mark Lepak said the law targets people who co-opt peaceful protests and incite riots.

The governor signed a bill last week that gives legal protection to drivers fleeing a riot who injure or kill someone who is on a roadway.
