At the start of the day, OU, Tulsa and OSU were the final choices, but the former Kansas guard will be playing in Stillwater.
Thompson arrived at his training facility known as "The Ranch,” sporting an orange and black polo.
Thompson could have played for his father’s alma mater, the University of Tulsa, but staying in the Big 12 led to his decision to head to Oklahoma State.
"I was just thinking different scenarios and everything, with my parents going to TU it was definitely tough, it was a rough decision,” said Thompson. “[It’s] closer to home and I'm able to get down here to this gym when I need to.”
Nearly 20 schools made the call once Thompson hit the transfer portal, but the relationship between Oklahoma State Head Coach Mike Boynton and Thompson - that dates back to his days at Booker T. Washington - added to the decision to become a Cowboy.
"My phone was ringing, mainly my dad’s phone, his phone was ringing off the hook, it was definitely a blessing to have all those schools wanting to have me, but at the end of the day I could only pick one. That relationship has been building for a long time, he is just a really smooth, personable guy and I feel like he was the one for me," said Thompson.
In his only season with the University of Kansas, Thompson started four of the 20 games that he appeared in, battling injuries through the season. He averaged 4.6 points per outing while playing 17.1 minutes per game.
