If you are driving on Interstate 244, chances are you've seen the Admiral Twin Drive-In a few times.
But you also might have seen it in the movie The Outsiders.
The 1983 classic will be showing at the drive-in all weekend to celebrate its 70th anniversary.
Admiral Twin's owner, Blake Smith, said there was no other movie that made more sense to show than The Outsiders.
"That's kind of our claim to fame," Smith said. "It still is and that's what we're showing this weekend."
This weekend only, the drive-in will be giving away special shirts and cups to the first 250 cars that come through the gate.
Anyone who gets the souvenir cup will also be able to get a lifetime $1 refill at the concession stand.
According to Statista, an online statistics portal, there are on 321 drive-in theaters left in the United States.
Smith said one of the reasons he thinks the theater has stayed in business is how much it has meant to the city of Tulsa.
"Like I say, it's iconic in so many ways," Smith said. "There's not a lot of legacy businesses that are still around since 1951."
Smith said he feels lucky his business was one of the ones that stayed busy in the early months of the pandemic.
He said although the movie business took a hit, he's glad he could provide Tulsans with safe entertainment.
"Last year turned out to be a good year even though we were closed for two and a half months," Smith said. "We actually did better last year then we did 2019."
Starting May 28th, the drive-in will be open seven days a week through the summer.
