A Rogers County man will spend 90 days in jail after causing a crash that killed a father of four last summer.
Hayes Violett pleaded guilty to misdemeanor negligent homicide for that crash.
The fiancée of the man who was killed, Bradley Morrison, spoke in court Friday and said she can’t even put into words the pain of losing the love of her life and the father to her kids.
Violett and the victim were both driving on Highway 20 last summer when Violett rear ended the Morrison’s motorcycle, causing him to crash into a parked car.
Test results showed Violett was not under the influence while driving which is why he was charged with misdemeanor negligent homicide.
Violett was given a one-year sentence in jail for each count, but all of it is suspended expect the first 90 days.
Prosecutors said the family didn’t want to have to go through a jury trial.
“We always consider our living victims wishes in these cases. It’s incredibly emotional and difficult process for them and sometimes they want to see closure,” said Rogers County Assistant District Attorney George Gibbs.
Violett’s attorney Clark Brewster tells me he feels terrible for the victim’s family but said he’s proud of Violett for taking responsibility for his actions.
Violett was taken into custody by Rogers County Deputies Friday. He also pled guilty to having drugs in his car at the time of the crash.
