Tulsa Police are investigating after an officer shot a woman during a disturbance call outside of a home near Pine and Yale early Wednesday morning. Police said the officer fired shots after the suspect charged at them with a baseball bat.
According to police, officers were called to the scene in regards to two women having an argument outside of a home around midnight. Officers and witnesses said a woman walked into a home and came out with a baseball bat once police showed up.
Captain Jerrod Hart, Tulsa Police, said officers tried to get the woman to drop the weapon but she charged at them and an officer fired multiple rounds at her. Captain Hart said the woman was hit three times and was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Police have not released the name of the woman who was shot but say she is in her 60s. Several divisions within the Tulsa Police Department were called to the scene as the investigation continues.
“Any type of shooting, we always have our homicide unit come out and work it, our detectives, crime scene, everybody will come out,” said Captain Hart. “We’ll obviously work it just like we would any other shooting even though it’s officer-involved.”
According to Captain Hart, the officer involved will be sent home on paid leave while the incident is investigated, which is the standard when an officer-involved shooting happens.
