A group of kids in Sapulpa has come up with a creative way to get their town on the map and support local businesses.
They're creating a scavenger hunt and need lots of help to make their plan come to life. A group of local kids wants to help boost Sapulpa's tourism, so they want to get everyone in town involved to help them out.
"We usually pick up around the town," said Josiah Ascensio.
11-year-old Josiah said his family and a few friends wanted to help their community so they created a group called Young Minds, Big Ideas.
"Companies can reach out and ask for small projects," said Jordan Ascencio.
The kids got bored during quarantine, so they've cleaned parking lots, helped lay flags, and served veterans, all while getting to hang out with their best friends.
Now, they're taking their service a step further.
"All these businesses support them for school and sports, and we want these kids to give back," said Jordan.
Jordan Ascencio is Josiah's mom, and she said their project is called "The Founding Feathers." They want to display feathers on all the historic sites in Sapulpa so when people visit the town, they can start at this museum and use a map to go on a scavenger hunt and find the feathers.
"It's like a hide and seek match," Josiah said.
The group is asking local businesses and restaurants to sponsor them so they can get their own feather and be on the map too.
"Sapulpa has so much to offer, and we really want to bring attention to that," said Jordan.
Jordan said once they get enough people involved, the kids plan on presenting their gift to the city at a city council meeting. She said she's so proud already and this is just the start.
"They're doing great," said Jordan. "We really want this to grow and bring people into town."
