Sunday is the final day of the inaugural Black Wall Street Centennial Rodeo at the Owasso Round-Up Club Arena.
Organizers say the event is meant to educate the youth on the history and significance of black cowboys and historically recognized black towns in Oklahoma. The rodeo will have activities throughout the day including Calf roping, a Pony Express show, and an education day with schools, daycares, and youth organizations. Organizer Starr Fisher says the stories of Oklahoma historical figures like Bass Reeves inspired the event. She says she hopes the rodeo will shed a light on a part of Oklahoma history that has been forgotten.
"I think it's important because if you don't know the authenticity and full complete story of the book, you don't get the accuracy of it," said Fisher
Sunday's events are set to kick off at 10 am and will go until 6 pm.
