52-Year-Old Athlete Lives Out Her Dream On Tulsa’s All-Female Football Team

For one athlete, Tulsa’s all-female football team is the opportunity to live out her dream.

These women are not observers. They are risk-takers. They are athletes who play with full pads and helmets - and full contact.

"You know they don't get paid to play, they play because they love the game, so they leave everything on the field,” Mike Evans, Tulsa Threat head coach said. Tulsa Threat is the all-female football team in the World Football Alliance.

Putting on the uniform and hitting someone is why Kimber Martin suits up to play for the Tulsa Threat. The 52-year-old is showing everybody that age is just a number.

"Freedom being able to choose whether I play a sport or not, that’s what it means to me,” Martin said.

With no league available growing up, Martins watched the game through her children’s eyes. Now that she gets her chance to shine, she is soaking up every moment.

"It’s a dream to actually be able to suit up and get on the field,” Martin said.

11 years ago, Martin saw the chance to play in the football league from a flyer - and she knew right away there was a chance to live out her dream

"Played many sports and this is the highest adrenaline sport there is,” Martin said. “You know you’re going to get hit and you know you are going to hit somebody. If you need an outlet, this is it."

Fast foward to the present and the shoulder pads won't be put away anytime soon.

"Don't become old before you get there. Age should never be an obstacle in playing a sport,” Martin said. “If you feel like your body can still do it and your mind can still do it, then you should do it.
