Slightly drier air has moved into part of northeastern OK this weekend and will help to keep our heat index values only a few degrees above daytime highs. No heat advisory will be required but the presence of drier air will also allow a rather fast, robust warm-up for the next few days. Afternoon highs will reach the mid-90s today and Tuesday before leveling off around 95 to 96 Wednesday and Thursday as some low-level moisture attempts to move northward. A weak front may enter part of the area this weekend bringing a low chance for a few storms.

Monday Highs

A strong, mid-level ridge of high pressure is anchored across the four corners into the part of the Rockies and has expanded eastward to include most of the region. A weak disturbance managed to sneak underneath the dome yesterday with a few storms across southwestern OK, but this feature is not expected to move into our area today. We’re expecting mostly sunny conditions with a light northeast wind from 5 to 12 mph and highs nearing the lower to mid-90s. The heat index will only be a few degrees above the daytime highs for northeastern OK, while a few spots south of I-40 may continue to reach the 99 to 100 range for the afternoon.

Temps & Rain Chances

The ridge is expected to flatten some by the end of the week as a strong short-wave eject across far northern sections of the Nation into southern Canada helping to drive a weak front southward into the central plains. This front may enter southern Kansas Saturday or Sunday with a few storms nearing the region during this period. Not all data bring this front southward, but the climate period would suggest our current ridge should weaken some and retro westward allowing a possible change with a slightly more active north to northwest flow pattern this weekend into early next week.

Rain Outlook

Thanks for reading the Monday morning weather discussion and blog.

Have a super great day!
