At least two cooling stations are now operating in downtown Tulsa for people looking to beat the heat. Both locations are offering air conditioning and cold water for anyone in need.

The John 3:16 Missions and Salvation Army’s Center of Hope cooling stations are located along Denver Avenue between I-244 and Archer.

Rev. Steve Whitaker, John 3:16 Missions, said their location offers more than a hundred spots. He said 80-100 people could visit their cooling station on any given day with hot temperatures.

Rev. Whitaker said these resources are available to anyone, including vulnerable communities like the homeless and elderly.

“A person can get pretty sick, pretty stressed in a hurry,” said Rev. Whitaker. “If you need to take a break from the heat, John 3:16 is a great place to come.”

In years past, the Equality Center has opened its doors as a cooling station, but an organizer told News On 6 they would not be doing so this year because of ongoing COVID-19 protocols.
