The City of Tulsa welcomed several new citizens Wednesday afternoon in a naturalization ceremony at city hall.
People from Bangladesh, Burma, Ecuador, the Philippines and many other countries were among those who took the oath of citizenship.
This ceremony included the 500th citizen to be naturalized in Tulsa since the New Tulsans Initiative began in 2019.
“It's super important that you know you are historic people in the lives of your family,” Tulsa Mayor GT Bynum said. “Not just today, not decades from now, but centuries from now, there will be people in your family who will have better lives because of what you've done."
New citizens received a Tulsa flag pin, cookies and a t-shirt.
