Owasso Police are reporting an uptick in the number of stolen cars within the last couple of months. The incidents are happening in different areas throughout Owasso.

Lieutenant Nick Boatman, Owasso Police, said the city is still a safe community but crime tends to pick up when the summertime months arrive on the calendar. Lt. Boatman said in April, five cars were stolen.

He said the number of stolen cars doubled to 10 in May and is already at five about halfway through the month of June. Some cars are being stolen directly from individuals, some from car lots and other instances include people who leave keys in their car while the owner is away.

Lt. Boatman said these crimes are not happening in one specific area of town and everyone should be aware of their surroundings. Should someone become a victim, there are steps you can take to help police find your car.

“Police need things to work with, we need a copy of the title, a picture of the car always works well with social media these days,” said Lt. Boatman. “If we can get a picture of a car out, a tag number, something quick, we can find that car much quicker.”

Owasso Police officers are patrolling neighborhoods during the day and night. Anyone who sees something suspicious is urged to call the police.
