Tulsa Clothing Store Subject Of 3 Separate Break-Ins In 30 Days

A Tulsa clothing store was recently broken into for the third time in just 30 days. This time the owner said he caught the break-in on camera.

The cost is really starting to add up - a couple stolen shirts here, a few broken windows there - that means thousands of dollars lost for the owner, Travers Mahan.

Security video caught the would-be thief in the act Tuesday morning.

"This particular person smashed through the glass, and we could see on the video that he waited for five minutes to see if there we going to be any alarms or anything that were going to go off," Mahan said as he reviewed the footage.

The man though the coast was clear and crawled through the hole he made in the glass. When he picked up a bag, he tripped a motion alarm and ran out the door.

Police came in to investigate shortly after, but this is far from the first time something like this has happened at Travers Mahan Apparel.

"It's just kind of nickel and diming us. I mean it's $1,500 here, $1,200 there. And we're trying to recover from COVID, it's just very frustrating to deal with it," Mahan said.

Mahan's frustrations have been slowly building over the last few years as he said he's seen an increase in break-ins and crime in Tulsa. He hopes city leaders and Tulsa Police can put an emphasis on proactive policing to cut down on crime.

"We need to be proactive and not reactive to this. We need to figure out a way," Mahan said. "It's not an easy problem, but it needs to be looked at."
