The manager of a Collinsville theater on Main Street has launched an online fundraiser to help keep the historic building functioning. The building has been open for about 90 years, but is now suffering from roof damage and water leaks.
Herron’s Crown Theater has been a live music venue and movie theater in its lifetime. It currently hosts a gospel show every Friday night.
Manager Russ Roberts said the last nine decades have taken their toll. The marquee on the outside is gone and water damage on the inside is starting to make an impact.
He said the building needs a new roof among other repairs, but he and the owners do not have money to put into the project. Roberts said the online fundraiser is to help with the repairs and keep the building alive for future generations.
“We just need a little help trying to build the building back up, to give it some curb appeal,” said Roberts. “Hopefully it’ll be here for a long time for the community to enjoy and pass along to the next generations.”
