A Tulsa man is worried he has nothing left after his apartment burned in a fire Thursday morning.
It happened around 11 a.m. at the Brookfield Community Apartments at 31st and Mingo.
"Just start over. And beyond that, I don't know what to tell anyone," said Michael Canfield, who lived there.
He's starting over after nearly three decades in his apartment. A neighbor shot video showing the moment Canfield's home burst into flames.
"All I know is yesterday I came home, no electricity," Canfield said.
Canfield said he noticed the circuit breaker was loose on Wednesday evening, so he slept in the car to have air conditioning. He was across the street getting breakfast when the fire happened.
"And then I turn around and there's all these trucks. And I thought, 'I sure as hell hope that ain't mine. And it was," Canfield said.
He came back to his apartment in ruins.
Andy Little with the Tulsa Fire Department said the apartment manager told firefighters the complex was having electrical issues.
He said the breakers had been tripped several times, so he went to this apartment to check it out. That's when he saw smoke and called 911.
Little said Canfield's unit is a total loss and some surrounding units have smoke damage. Investigators are looking into what exactly caused the fire.
"We do know it was electrical in nature. As I said, the breaker was popping multiple times," Little said.
He said the apartment manager had trouble breathing due to the smoke, but no one went to the hospital.
Canfield said he may stay with family for now.
"But beyond that, no, I don't know anything. Everything's coming together right now, so we'll just see," Canfield said.
Little said no one else was displaced because of the fire.
