People lined up to get the COVID vaccine at the Warren Clinic Saturday near 101st and Memorial.

As the Delta variant spreads, St. Francis physician Mark Frost said it’s better late than never and people shouldn't risk it any further.

"It's sad for us to see these folks come in -- so sick, so desperately ill -- to have to help families deal with a loved one that is dying when it could be prevented," Frost said.

Frost said St. Francis has seen an increase in the number of people hospitalized with COVID-19 since early June.

There are a little more than 100 patients who are at the hospital battling the virus.

"These aren't people that are just in with a mild cold. These are sick people that require oxygen," Frost said. "A number of these folks are on ventilators, and there's a variety of ages."

Gabrielle Ramsey said Saturday was her first time getting the COVID-19 vaccine after not being able to get it because she was too young.

She said she didn't have to think twice about getting it, especially after the last school year she experienced.

"It was pretty frustrating because one week we'd get an email saying we'd be back, and then the next day we get a cancellation," Ramsey said.

Neveah Abbott, a sophomore at Broken Arrow High School who was also vaccinated Saturday, said she thinks some kids her age are still very hesitant to get vaccinated.

"A lot of people, they were like, 'What, you're getting the vaccine?’" Abbott said. "They were a little concerned."

Frost said he wants people to know you are not completely immune to the Delta variant if you are unvaccinated or have recovered from battling COVID-19 at an earlier time.
