Heat warnings and heat advisories remain but some relief is expected early next week.
Once again, our main issues continue to center upon a strengthening ridge of high pressure combined with abundant low-level moisture creating heat index values ranging from 105 to 113 in some locations. I anticipate these conditions will remain for the next few days, including most of the weekend before some changes occur as the ridge changes shape and moves slightly west. This will allow a back-door front to enter northeastern OK Sunday with a chance for a few showers or storms followed by a minor reduction in heat and humidity. This system should bring highs back down into the upper 80s for a few days next week and bring slightly lower dew points into the eastern third of the state.
The mid-level ridge continues to expand from the Rockies eastward into southern Kansas and northern OK this morning. A few pop-up storms may remain later today well south and east of our most of our areas of concern. A few may trigger with daytime heating across Latimer, Le Flore and Sequoyah counties, but even today this chance is extremely low.
Temps are not expected to vary much from current levels. Morning lows will be in the mid to upper 70s with afternoon highs today in the upper 90s. We’ll be adding a degree each day with the expectation of finally hitting the official 100 at Tulsa International for the first time in over 708 days Thursday through Saturday. Other locations east of the metro will top out in the upper 90s.
Most data bring the front into northeastern OK Sunday morning, but the daytime temp forecast will remain quite tricky. I’m inclined to keep this reading higher than modeled and keep a rather robust heat index for Sunday before these values drop early next week. Some operational data drop us into the mid-60s for Tuesday morning lows and highs into the mid to upper 80s. We’ll take it!
Thanks for reading the Wednesday morning weather discussion and blog.
Have a super great day!
