Tulsa Police Chief Wendell Franklin and his staff got a surprise today from some Tulsa business owners.
The Owners of Yale Cleaners and two State Farm agencies in Tulsa brought breakfast for TPD and presented Chief Wendell Franklin with a certificate to show their support for their local law enforcement.
Bryan Smith owns two State Farm agencies in Tulsa and says for the last five years he has made it a point to surprise first responders with breakfast as a small gesture to show their support.
Chief Franklin and his staff were surprised at their weekly leadership meeting with Chick-fil-A breakfasts, gift cards and handshakes.
"I think they deserve people that notice the good things that are going on, which is almost all good,” said Smith.
Smith says it may be a small gesture, but he wants local first responders to know they are supported and their sacrifice is appreciated. The staff was also given $50 gift cards to Yale Cleaners.
"It is really important for us to try to give back. They give so much to us. It's just a small way that we can give back to them and make them feel like someone truly does care about them,” said John Rothrock who is the owner of Yale Cleaners.
Chief Franklin returned the gesture and gave everyone a tour of his office and gave out a couple of special gifts.
"A lot of times we might see some of the negative, instead of seeing the day-to-day sacrifice, so ultimately it's just to send a positive message about what they are doing,” said Smith.
