Kids Heartbroken After Little Free Library Stolen From Tulsa Childcare Center

Children at a Tulsa Childcare center are sad after someone stole their free library that is set up outside their building. 

The director said the person who stole it was caught on camera. 

Sydney Consedine, center director at Happy Campers at John Knox, a childcare center near 31st and Harvard, said she and her family decided to build a Little Free Library as a way to encourage kids to read.

"I remember saying, oh my gosh, it would be awesome to have one in front of Happy Campers," she said.

Consedine said her husband built it and she and her daughter painted it. For years, it's been a place where kids can take a book, or leave one behind, as a way to bring new stories to all the kids.

"It was special for our kids. We promote literacy at an early age, and there is a beautiful piece of knowing I found joy in this book," Consedine said.

The Little Free Library was there for longer than three years, but last week someone loaded it up and stole the whole thing in just a few minutes.

"We are just really confused why somebody would feel the need to take, essentially, from the children," she said.

Surveillance video shows a person driving up to the little library and taking it in the middle of the night.

Consedine said it doesn't make sense, and she hopes they'll will bring it back.

"Kids are being robbed of so many joys in life," Consedine said. "It's unfortunate something so simple and wholesome has been taken from them."
