It’s the first week of classes for Tulsa students enrolled in College Park.
The partnership between Tulsa Community College and OSU-Tulsa is designed to help more students earn a four-year degree.
“I'm like a weird mix of nervous and excited because I'm ready to start school but I'm also like, this isn't high school,” said freshman Erin Woodward.
“First day of school has always been exciting to me, but this is got to be the most excited I've been for the first day,” said freshman Alexander Nesim.
Nesim and Woodward are part of the first group to attend College Park. Based at the OSU-Tulsa campus, students will get their Associate’s degree from TCC and Bachelor's degree from OSU-Tulsa.
"To offer students in the Tulsa area that 4-year college experience all in one campus,” said College Park Specialist Zachary Grant.
Grant said the program will save students the hassle of transferring from community college to a university. He said it gives students a way to not only continue relationships with staff and professors, but also with each other.
"Giving them the opportunity to build those connections early on, and kind of really find a home here,” Grant said.
TCC provided $10,000 to help the first group of students buy textbooks, and OSU-Tulsa will fund $500,000 in scholarships. Grant says once accepted into TCC, incoming freshman can apply to College Park.
After two years, they'll be able to take classes through OSU-Tulsa and graduate with that degree.
"When I saw how easy and laid out it was that already had all the classes planned out, that made me feel good,” Woodward said.
"It's the determination of everyone in the class and everyone has that drive to make it to their end goals,” Nesim said.
