All McAlester students choosing to learn in-person are headed back to classrooms on Monday after the school year started in different groups. The district’s plan is to function normally but they do have plans in place should COVID-19 cases or other health concerns get in the way.
There will be efforts to sanitize and disinfect classrooms and buildings are marked for distancing. Students will also sit in pods to help limit exposure.
Masks are voluntary in accordance with current state law. The district will notify parents through contact tracing should they come into close contact with someone who tests positive for COVID-19.
The campus will close if 35% of students are in quarantine or if there is a staffing shortage. Buildings will close districtwide if 35% of total students are in quarantine or if the district cannot find enough substitute teachers.
The school board will review the return-to-school plan in monthly meetings. The full plan can be viewed by Clicking Here.
