We're in the middle of our 3rd heat wave for the summer season. This current configuration of the midlevel ridge positioned near or overhead continues through at least Thursday before our synoptic set-up begins to change as the ridge migrates east of the plains. This opens the possibility of a few scattered showers and storms this weekend, but more importantly, the reduction of our current heat and humidity. We're still expecting highs in the 90s this weekend, but it will be mostly the mid 90s. Heat index values are not expected to support advisory criteria. Basically, we're in the running for a respite from the triple digits and excessive heat index values beginning Sunday into next week.
As the ridge moves east, a weak easterly type of wave will sneak up and underneath moving across the southeastern U.S., eventually bringing some scattered showers and storms across part of Louisiana into Texas. A few scattered showers or storms may arrive across far southeastern OK Friday or Saturday. Additionally, these areas are susceptible for a few pop-up storms due to some highly localized terrain influences. Any coverage of storm activity will be highly isolated and mostly across extreme southeastern OK. But Saturday evening into Sunday a few scattered storms could make a brief appearance across Eastern OK and we'll continue with a low mention, even for the metro Sunday and possibly Monday.
The potential for a weak boundary nearing southeastern Kansas and northern OK remains for Monday, but the overall confidence in this solution is extremely low. I'll keep a small pop for this period along with temps near normal.
The tropics remain interesting with at least three separate waves-disturbances that have a chance to blossom into named storms, including one that may have impacts across the Gulf Coastal Regions for next week. This same system may also have impacts for our weather and forecast next week.
Thanks for reading the Wednesday morning weather discussion and blog.
Have a super great day!
