High schools across Oklahoma are kicking off their football seasons on Friday and some schools in the Tulsa area are leaving it up to fans when it comes to safety protocols inside stadiums. Many who limited capacity inside stadiums last year do not have plans to do so again to start the season.

Union’s varsity football team kicks off a new season inside the recently renovated Tuttle Stadium. A spokesperson for the district said there is room to distance and they will encourage people to wear masks.

Fans at Jenks’ Allan Trimble Stadium will also notice masks being recommended, but not required, in accordance with current state law. A district spokesperson said there are no stadium capacity limits currently in place.

The Owasso Rams and Broken Arrow Tigers will both start the season on the road, but a spokesperson for each respective district confirmed there are no capacity restrictions inside stadiums to start the season.

Bixby Athletics Director Kate Creekmore told News On 6 they will be keeping hand sanitizing stations filled up and try to keep people distanced as best they can. Like all other districts we spoke to, Creekmore said there will be no stadium capacity limitations.

Creekmore said masks will be available for anyone who wants one at Spartans games.
