Tulsa Police officers are trying to solve the murder of a 15-year-old boy.
Officers say the boy showed up to OSU Medical Center on Sunday night around 10:15 p.m. with a gunshot wound. They said he died around 1:40 a.m. Monday morning.
"Our detectives are trying to piece together a possible location for where this took place and get our suspect information," said Captain Richard Meulenberg.
Meulenberg said a private car dropped him off at OSU Medical Center. He said they do know the victim’s name and family has been notified, but they are not releasing his name at this time.
Meulenberg said officers have been in touch with the boy’s family and while they're in the very early stages of the investigation, they hope to turn over some new leads soon.
"We just kind of start working backwards, ask the family where he'd been who he was hanging out with and just try and work the case," said Meulenberg.
Police said right now they’re following up on leads to try to track down where the shooting happened and why.
"I can't say we have any promising leads right now, but we always have a direction to go in,” said Captain Meulenberg. “This is just a tragic gun death."
Tulsa Police said this is the city's 34th homicide of the year, which is down from this time last year. By the end of August 2020, the city had more than 50 homicides.
Meulenberg said all deaths weigh on officers, but murders involving teenagers impact officers differently.
"You've got someone who is 15, just beginning life,” said Meulenberg. “I mean not even old enough to drive and life gets snatched from them so quickly, so we are going to find this person and we are going to put them in jail."
